Living as the little children of the Most High

With the help of the Holy Spirit, our Holy Mother, and the saints, we are going to go through our daily lives living out our spiritual childhood and being living monstrance.

Spiritual childhood: is spiritually being aware of our complete dependence on our Eternal Father and having a childlike relationship with Him.

Monstrance: This word comes from the Latin word “monstrare”, which means “to show.” It is an open or transparent receptacle in which consecrated Host is exposed for veneration. You and I are His living monstrance, carrying Him wherever we go and in whatever we do.

These daily exercises are going to put us in a disposition of learning and receiving His grace of becoming His children in our interior life with Him and living it out in our daily human life, and they will help us learn to become His servants, in other words living monstrance. `

1.   Morning

As soon as we open our eyes, we say,

“Glory be to Jesus Christ. Thank you, Lord, for watching over me while I was sleeping. I offer you my journey, my whole being. This is your day my Jesus, another day in your life when you were on earth. Use it, Master, as You wish. I give You authority over my mouth, my eyes, my feet, my heart, my intellect, my desires, and my soul. My whole body is Yours to use. The only thing I beg Master, is for you to please bless Your servant with the graces that she (or he) needs to be able to serve Your Day and Your Will the way You want her (or him) to.

I love you, my Lord and my God.

(Because we offer our day to Him, the day is now a holy day because anything that He owns is Holy. You and I have now the privilege to serve His day and His will in our lives.)

After that, we are going to consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of our Holy Mother with this solemn act of consecration from venerable Pope Pius XII:

Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to You, all the people of our country and all the world.

Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world.

O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully.

We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home.

Amen.

Now let’s say a prayer for humility. Humility is the love language of wisdom. For the grace of us knowing from the core of our being our true identity as His children and living an authentic childlike relationship with Him, which by His Mercy and grace we will each receive by this new way of life, we will need His humility to keep us on the right path and closer to Him.

My Lord and my God, I consecrate to you my eyes, my mouth, my hands, my feet, my thoughts, my desires, and all my being. By Your Mercy, I beg You, good Master, to give me the grace to see through Your own eyes, to speak with Your own words, to work with Your hands, to walk with Your feet, to desire only what Your desire, and to love with Your Heart. I, (say your full name) give You authority over my eyes, my mouth, my desire, my thoughts, all my senses, and my whole being. I am Your servant, the servant of Your Will, and of Your Day. All I ask, oh who am I to ask, I beseech You, good Master, to pour into Your servant’s soul, all the graces that I need to serve You, Your will, and Your day the way You want me to. And may You oh good King, allow my guardian angel to remind me throughout the day of my commitment to serve You, Your will, and Your day. I love you.

Now, let’s say the litany of humility written by Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! Meek and humble of heart, hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being loved, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being extolled, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being honored, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being praised, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being preferred to others, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being consulted, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being approved, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being humiliated, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being despised, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of suffering rebukes, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being calumniated, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being forgotten, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being ridiculed, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being wronged, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being suspected, deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. Amen.

2.   Attend Holy Mass

(After taking the Holy Eucharist, close your eyes and imagine yourself as being a newborn resting on His heart. Your heart lying down against His. You are lying down on the Heart of love, absorbing love.

Newborns don’t have you and I ability to think and talk but if they do, at this stage and moment of their life, they will tell us, and you being that newborn right now would tell us,

“I have complete trust in my Heavenly Father who is holding me right now while I am sleeping; the grown me in my humanity is right now a newborn sleeping in the arms of my Father; there is no self-defense mechanism, no worries but it is a perfect trust that my Dad is holding me, I am loved, I have everything I want and need and He won’t let me fall. I don’t know how to fake it, if I had any discomfort right now, I would make myself heard by crying so if I am sleeping right now it is because I am lacking nothing. I am just there, breathing love, receiving love, and giving love by just existing. I am being part, as little as I am, as completely dependent on my Dad as I am, of the Eternal exchange of love between the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”

Breathe in and breathe out, try to don’t think about anything else except the fact that you are one with your Savior right now, you are home, and you are a newborn sleeping in His arms. (We are honoring that moment with silence.) (There will be times that the newborn you at this divine moment will be silently crying, depending on what you are going through in your life which is totally fine.)

After a couple of minutes of silence, say this prayer, “My Jesus, as we are one right now, may my strength, health, protection, purity, love for God and others, faith, humility, obedience, and trust in the Father be one with yours when you were on earth. May I completely disappear, and may you take over my intellect, my heart, and my whole being. I love you, Master.”

Breathe in, breathe out, you are home.

Ps: This spiritual exercise isn’t based on how we feel or how everything is going in our human life even though they shouldn’t be neglected or ignored.

But it will allow us after Holy Mass, when you and I step outside as living monstrance, to try to live out that perfect trust (by bringing back that holy scene into mind during our day whenever we need it.) which will never be perfect in our humanity but it will be as close as it can be and we will grow in awareness that we can’t do anything without Him, we are grown-ups in our humanity but spiritually we are newborn resting in His arms; we are going to allow the peace and trust that is within us to radiate into our lives even when it looks like they are upside down right now. And to remind us that He will never fail us even if, sometimes, what we are going through is screaming the contrary.

From time to time, mostly during our sorrowful seasons, you and I are going to feel some resistance in our hearts while doing this spiritual exercise which is normal because we are dying to ourselves to trust in Him and to be at peace even when what we are experiencing is working against us trusting in Him and us being at peace. But practicing this spiritual exercise is the core of our journey of truly living out our true identity as little children of The Most High; our trust in Him and peace come from our intimate relationship with Him.

This is a journey of learning and never stop learning how to perfectly trust Him and abandon ourselves in His arms, no matter what happens, either is joy or pain we can acknowledge the suffering and say in tears, “It is well with my soul”, and run towards Him, let Him pick us up and cry in His arms. It is also a journey of learning to put into practice what the Master said, “If you want to follow me, you will have to die to self daily, and by dying, you actually live.”

There will be challenging days when you and I will find ourselves refusing to do it or being tempted to don’t do it, but remember that He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

So, when we find ourselves unable to do it, let’s beg for His grace and allow ourselves to rest in Him as we described. Let’s you and I, allow ourselves to have experiences of Eternity with Him. We are allowing ourselves to be transformed from within and then to live out that transformation.

3.   Throughout the day and mostly whenever we feel anxious

Say the Jesus prayer “Lord Jesus, Son of the living God have mercy on me, poor sinner.”

People usually say it by breaking it down into two parts that allow them to say it as they are breathing in and breathing out. Like when you inhale say "Lord Jesus" exhale with the "Son of the living God" and inhale while saying "Have mercy on me" (it is like you are inhaling His mercy inside you) and exhale while saying "poor sinner" (it is like you're exhaling your sins out).

4.   Say the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 pm if you can if not try to say it at another time that works best for you. For those who are unable to recite it at 3 pm try to say this little prayer if you feel at peace with it: “Jesus I trust in you and I am immersing myself, my family, my coworkers, my friends, and the whole world in your ocean of Mercy.”

5.   Say the Holy Rosary (It is our bonding time with our Holy Mother)

(At the end of the rosary, close your eyes, breathe in, and breathe out. Imagine yourself being the newborn child Jesus, in the arms of Mama Mary. Try to stay in that meditative prayer for minutes.

Breathe in and breathe out, tell her “I love you, Mother, please help me be the child Jesus in your arms.)

To be the child Jesus in her arms is to trust that she is our Mother and like any good mother who is holding her child in her arms, no one can dare approach her child without her permission, and no one will take her child away from her. We have a very protective Mother who will never let us fall from her arms.

To be the child Jesus in her arms is to trust in her intercession for our temporal and eternal needs.

To be the child Jesus in her arms is to trust that she is the one carrying the weight of our daily life and she is always holding our hand while walking with us on this side of heaven, making sure that we are on the right path.

The Litany of The Holy Spirit, let’s find a time that works best for each one of us to honor Him. We will try to say it while meditating on each word:

Lord, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Have mercy on us.

6.   At the end of the day if you can, go for adoration but if you are not able to, put an online perpetual adoration (I call that FaceTiming with The Master). Daily adoration is very important because our holiness is the result of our time with The Master. And you and I have to allow our souls to spend time with Him, Who is The Lover of our souls.

(Read this slowly)

Close your eyes, breathe in, breathe out (While doing it, try to remember what the Bible in Genesis says at the beginning “The Lord created men and breathed into his nostril the breath of life…”.

Breathe in and breathe out…

It is the breath coming out of Him that you and I are breathing right now. We are breathing in from His own breath; for us to be able to breathe in from His breath, we have to be very close to Him and be in a “face-to-face position” with Him. He is right in front of you and me. He is sharing His own breath with you and me.

Breathe in and breathe out, the air coming into our lungs through our nose or mouth is the taste of His love.

(Throughout the day, whenever you remember, breathe in and breathe out while contemplating the mystery and the sacredness of the action of just breathing from His own breath. It is a form of prayer. The easiest one but one of the most powerful because we are acknowledging God the Creator, His love for us, our total dependence on Him to even be alive, and His Mercy towards us (Because even when you and I sin, He is still very close to us so we can breathe in from His own breath. It is the sacredness of human beings in action.)

At the end of the day, imagine that you are three years old with two or four pigtails for women and for men, just imagine yourself as a little boy.

Now that you are three years old, talk to the Holy Spirit, “Spirit of truth and love, Spirit of the living God, please take me to heaven, I want to see Him.

Now talk to Jesus, “Master, you told me that you were going to Your and my Father, please let me see my Father. I want to see Him, just see Him.

Now imagine Jesus holding your right hand and bringing you to the Father, your Daddy. Imagine Him picking you up and putting you right on His shoulder. Imagine your little hands holding His neck and Him, holding you tight. Breathe in breathe out. Daddy is here nothing else matters; Daddy is here.

Now tell Him what is in your heart with the simplicity, honesty, and trust of a three years old. Tell Him how your day was. Share with Him any feelings that you experienced throughout the day. If you experienced sadness or anxiety, tell Him what triggered that. Be at peace exploring it and going to the root of it with Him because if it matters to you, it matters to Him. Remember that any feelings that come from someone who hurt us, if we don’t tell Him about it and hand it to Him, will be stored inside of us like garbage.

(Resting in His arms are you and I place for all eternity and the good news is that the Master made it possible for us to start living it now. Let’s take advantage of it.)

Repeat the same with our Lady.

7.   Before going to bed

Read a chapter of the song of songs, and consecrate yourself to the Holy Spirit with this prayer:

On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God.  I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love.  You are the Strength and Light of my soul.  In You, I live and move and am.  I desire never to grieve You by my unfaithfulness and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You.  Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations.  I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion, to watch over me in my weakness.  Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood, I implore You, Holy Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You.  Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son, to say to You always and everywhere, “Speak Lord for Your servant listens.”
Amen.

My King and my Lord You have said, “You are mine and I am yours.”, this means that your Heart is mine and my heart is yours. Tonight, I offer you my broken heart, full of unmet expectations, in exchange for Your Heart. (Close your eyes, breathe in, and breathe out. Imagine yourself holding your tiny and imperfect heart in your hand and giving it to Him. And imagine Him giving you His Heart, the Heart of love, mercy, and peace. Now imagine yourself putting His heart where yours was.

Breathe in, and breathe out, seat for a couple of minutes on the fact that you now have His Heart. Now try to don’t think about the things that were weighing down the heart that you had because you gave that heart away to Him. Try to go to bed in peace with your new heart, His Heart that is full of love.

8.   Last action of the night

Open the Holy Bible, kiss it, and say, “Good night, Daddy”.

Be at peace and allow yourself to sleep.

If you still have a hard time falling asleep or if you are too anxious to fall asleep remember that The Master Himself trusted Mama Mary and felt safe in her arms. The remedy for our anxiety is a person, the Virgen Mary, our Mother.

Tell her with the heart of a child who knows that her mama loves her so much and you know that she can and will take care of you. Tell her: “Mother, I give you my anxiety, my worries (and whatever is in your mind at the time that you are going to bed) and I am going to sleep in your arms like the child Jesus. I trust in your love and intercession for me. I love you and I shall see you tomorrow.

Be at peace knowing that while you and I are sleeping in her arms, she is awaking, with her eyes gazing at the Throne Of the Most High interceding for us.

(We love you Holy Mother.)

PS: Mama Mary is our Holy Mother because our Master, Her Son, gave us to Her and Her to us.
